Story Behind the Book - The Hero, Babasaheb!
While creating this book, I completed two years as a mother.. As my son, Ren, turned two, I, too, completed two years as a mother. They say motherhood is the most important phase of a woman's life, and I have found this to be true. Life gives you its most precious gift in the form of your child. Of course, you love them unconditionally, but at the same time, it demands immense patience and countless sacrifices.
The sacrifice that mattered most to me was time—because time, once gone, never comes back. I feel incomplete when I don’t get to create, paint, or draw. During the initial months after Ren was born, I spent sleepless nights, feeling exhausted and sometimes frustrated because I couldn’t paint or create anything. I was fully occupied with looking after him, which I enjoyed, but at the same time, I felt like I was losing a part of myself.
I also wanted him to know about Buddha, Babasaheb, our leaders, and our movement from an early age. That’s when I thought of making a book for him. I decided to create at least one illustration, painting, or artwork every month. By his first birthday, I had completed 12 artworks, many of which are now part of this book, along with some of my older works.
In the personalized book I made for Ren, I had used quotes from "Buddha and His Dhamma," but simply using them as they were in this book didn’t feel right. I wanted them to be more engaging and poetic. So, in 2024, I began writing poems—something I had never done before. My husband helped me refine them, making them short and simple.
Finding time was a challenge. I barely had an hour a day when Ren was sleeping, which felt too little to think, read, write, and create. Even now, this little person drives me crazy, leaving me with no personal time! His schedule keeps changing. He loves to paint, draw, read, play with clay, and, of course, cars. He is amazing, but yes—sometimes, he irritates me too!
Through this book, I want our children and youth to learn about Buddha, Babasaheb, our history, and our culture. I want them to understand how important it is for them to contribute to this movement.
I am grateful for all the support and appreciation I receive on Instagram and Facebook for my artworks and this book—it truly pushes me to create more.
I have poured my dedication, love, patience, and hope into this book. I would love for it to become a part of your family.
